Volunteers Needed for CVHS Summer Social - August 15th

We’re getting ready for our CVHS Annual Summer Social at Paradise Plants Garden Centre on Saturday, August 15th from noon to 4:00 pm, and we’re looking for a few more volunteers to help make the day run smoothly. The Summer Social is always a wonderful chance to learn, connect with fellow gardeners, and celebrate another successful year together.

We have already filled two positions for the children’s activities, but we still need volunteers for several other roles. If you have a few hours to spare that day, I’d love to hear from you - whether there’s a particular position that interests you or you’re open to helping wherever needed. If your preferred role is already filled, please let me know if you’d consider a backup option.

If you have any needs that should be accommodated (for example, needing to sit, avoiding lifting, etc.), please feel free to mention that as well.

Volunteer Roles Still Needed

Set‑Up Crew (2–3 people)
11:00–12:00

  • Setting up tents, tables, and chairs

  • Directing rental equipment setup

  • Placing garbage/recycling bins

  • Putting out directional signs

Parking Attendants (4–6 people)
Two shifts: 12:00–2:00 and 2:00–4:00

  • Directing CVHS guests to the back parking lot

  • Directing Paradise Plants customers to the front lot

  • Helping guide cars/bicycles into the back lot

  • Rotating to spell each other off

Take‑Down Crew (2–3 people)
4:00–5:00

  • Packing up tents, tables, and chairs

  • Directing rental take‑down

  • Collecting garbage/recycling and taking it to the dump

  • Gathering directional signs and picking up any stray garbage

Membership & Welcome Table (4 people)
Two shifts: 12:00–2:00 and 2:00–4:00

  • Welcoming guests

  • Explaining activities and displays

  • Directing families to the children’s area

  • Promoting the contest and how it works

  • Encouraging non‑members to join

  • Sharing information about CVHS

Refreshments & Snacks Coordinators (2–3 people)
12:00–4:00 (or until supplies run out)

  • Keeping food and drinks topped up

  • Keeping the refreshment area tidy
