Peat Moss vs Coir

Here is an interesting article from the Peatlands Protection Society regarding the pros and cons of peat moss and coir.

Washington State University points out that coconut coir is a “readily renewable, pH-neutral, non-hydrophobic soil amendment that aerates, improves water retention, and is more
environmentally friendly than peat moss.”

I bought Organic Sunshine Coir that was on clearance last year. I potted up begonia tubers this spring and they just sat there. I pulled some tubers from their pots and planted them in my large pots with peat moss based soil, they began to grow in no time. I have other plant in Coir as well and not good results. I won’t use it again!
