Open Garden Tour, Silverlea at Ships Point - July 6, 2024

This half acre property contains an amazing mix of over 160 roses. The historic roses include Species Roses, Chinas, Rugosa, Hybrid Gallica, Hybrid Musk, Tea, Hybrid Sempervirens, Damask Perpetual, and Polyanthas. Modern roses include Hybrid Teas, Shrubs, Landscape, Grandifloras, Floribundas, Climbers, and Ramblers. And along with the many fabulous blooms, there are whimsical vignettes using found materials every where the eye rests. There are also thriving nut and fruit trees and a bountiful vegetable garden.

Our hosts have been working with this garden for the past 8 years, continually building the soil. They do not fertilize or spray—this year, they spread twelve yards of two-year old, composted cow manure and all things growing are very happy. The garden is very much a team effort—Dianne is the dreamer and Roland is the builder. Many thanks to our hosts for sharing their garden and allowing us to see its evolution.
