Online Seed Companies

Since January is the time for garden dreaming, here is something that may be of interest: a list of companies that sell seeds online. It was produced by the BC Council of Garden Clubs and came from the January 2022 newsletter (the Council notes that the companies listed are from other people’s recommendations and have not been vetted by BCCGC). If anyone has opinions to offer or other companies to add, please feel free!

I just had a look at Annie’s Heirloom Seeds, and see that they ‘no longer ship to Canada’.

Thanks Patti–I’ve used these seeds myself and they are excellent. Merville Rocket and Chocolate Cherry. Dreaming of summer now! I inserted them into the list.

For native plant seed I have had good success with Northwest Meadowscapes. They sell native grasses and other plants in small quantities and ship to Canada. They are located in Port Townsend Wa.

Thanks for posting the list of seed companies! Very helpful. I have also bought seeds online from these Vancouver Island farms.

Sweet Rock Farm on Gabriola Island https://www.sweetrockfarm.ca/
Ravensong Seeds in the Comox Valley https://ravensongseeds.com/
Full Circle Seeds in Sooke https://fullcircleseeds.com/

It’s nice when we can support local growers.

‘Local’ Seed Sources (Recent CVHS Facebook Post)

With these short days and snow on the ground, there is not a lot of outdoor gardening to be done. Sometimes that’s good because even gardeners, who are generally an active bunch, need a rest! If you do find that you absolutely have to partake in some kind of horticultural activity, browsing through seed choices and thinking about what to plant in your garden next year may be just the ticket!

Here is a list of local seed suppliers that all have online stores–by local we mean Vancouver Island and surrounding islands, and by seed suppliers we mean companies that save their own seeds (not seed houses that source seeds from various other companies). If there are other companies that should be added to this list, we’d appreciate a note in the comments area.
