Native grasses as matrix plants (plants that visually and horticulturally knit a garden together). They have won me over ☺️. I love the look all seasons

Absolutely beautiful! Curious as to where you found your grasses … and are there any you can name that you would particularly recommend?

Lorna, i am just using the grasses that were here when the whole place was just ‘weeds’ and bare land. There are likely at least 4-5 different species here, including good ol couch grass, and i have been gradually editing to keep the ones i like the best for form, inflorescences and seasonal colour. The edited ones go on the soil/compost pile for next year. I would be thrilled if someone could visit and identify the native grass species so i could call them something other than weeds, lo.

I’d love to learn more about grasses…I don’t know much so I could definitely not help with identification! From what I’ve read on garden tags, most of them seem to require quite a bit of water to survive. I’d like to find a drought tolerant one. Thx for sharing the photos…beautiful!
