May 9, 2026 - Open Garden Tour, Courtenay North

:herb: What a kickoff to our Open Garden Tour season! :herb:

A huge thank you to Kelly and Carl for opening up their stunning sanctuary to us. Every corner has something “must-see”, from a massive California Redwood to well established Japanese Maples, Dogwood and Pin Leaf Oak to delicate fringecup, Leopard’s Bane, columbine, ferns and natives plants.

This garden was already established when Kelly and Carl purchased the property nine years ago (Lily, a previous owner who co-designed the original garden back in 1985 was onsite during the tour!). Since then, Kelly’s “tuck it in where I love it” planting style has created a lush, layered look, all anchored by a gorgeous central pond with a tranquil seating area. The garden is watered through many irrigation zones from a spring fed well.

It was a beautiful day to stroll and chat with fellow garden lovers. Thanks again, Kelly and Carl, for the wonderful inspiration!

Special Note: CVHS members were able to enjoy three wonderful Open Garden Tours this weekend! Unfortunately, our volunteers couldn’t attend every one, so we apologize to the hosts who didn’t receive a featured write-up. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who opens their gardens, and we know our members truly cherish the opportunity to visit them.
