We had an excellent meeting last night with lots of plant and seed browsing and sales prior to a fabulous talk from Caila Holbrook discussing the transformative Kus-Kus-Sum Project.
Caila provided some very informative and interesting history of the project, an overview of what’s been done to date to revert the area back to its natural state, and how using the plantings selected will ‘hold it all together’.
Caila provided us with some examples of native species plants used at Kus-Kus-Sum that can also be incorporated into our own gardens, including:
Coastal Willow (Salix hookeriana), Red Flowering Current (Ribes sanguineum), Oceanspray (Holodiscus discolor), Springbank Clover (trifolium wormskioldii), Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), Elegant Goldenrod (Solidago lepida), Small Camas (Camassia quamash). Many of these plants are available at our local Streamside Native Plants nursery in Bowser (who provided much of the plantings to the Kus-Kus-Sum project).
Thanks again to Caila for this wonderful presentation.
