Keystone Flora Species

Keystone flora species are native plants that significantly impact ecosystem health by providing vital resources for wildlife and other species, including food, shelter, and habitat. These plants are essential for the survival and well-being of many organisms and can have a profound impact on biodiversity.

Coastal British Columbia enjoys some very beautiful keystone flora species and many are in flower right now. Here are a few recent photos taken locally, including:

• Coast Fawn Lily (Erythronium revolutum)
• Fairyslipper Calypso Orchid (Calypso bulbosa)
• Salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis)
• Red-Flowering (Currant Ribes sanguineum)
• Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum)

Also, for interest and beauty, are photos of another lovely native, the Western trillium (Trillium ovatum). We hope you enjoy!
