June 13, 2026 Open Garden Tour - Courtenay

Thank you to everyone who attended today’s Open Garden Tour! Visitors had the opportunity to explore this lovely property that makes excellent use of a long, narrow city lot.

The front entry area has been recently updated, replacing the grass with low-maintenance plantings and water-retaining mulch. Adjacent to the back patio is a very beautiful and peaceful seating area designed and maintained by Tanya. This space features lush flower beds, rustic hardscape architecture, and a collection of multi-storey trees framing the area.

An archway at the back of the seating area serves as a transition point into the vegetable garden, which is Rod’s domain. He grows a wide variety of produce here, including beans, garlic, tomatoes, carrots, strawberries, and rhubarb. This is very much a working garden with a Speedibin, fenced enclosures for protection from wildlife, and time saving self-watering systems very much in action. Lots of food is most definitely produced here! At the very end of the lot, a shady nook with a hammock completes the garden layout.

The homeowners have been developing this garden for three years now. We appreciate everyone who came out to support the tour today!
