July 4, 2026 - Open Garden Tour, North Courtenay
Our members were treated to two open gardens this weekend, both just north of Courtenay. Details and photos regarding one garden follow (the other will be posted shortly).
Darlene’s 1.36-acre garden has been 35 years in the making, with all shrubs originally planted in one-gallon pots or smaller. The rhododendrons are now over 10 feet tall! There are many areas to explore, including a new vegetable area (with steel raised beds put in last year), a shade garden, a greenhouse (featuring sweet potatoes), a pond, a gazebo, an outdoor kitchen, and chickens. The special treat members enjoyed was an amazing collection and display of bonsai.
This site is the home of the CVHS Farm Stand and annual plant sale. We can’t thank Darlene enough for all she does for our club!
