January 20, 2025 General Meeting with Speaker Brian Minter – Trends for 2025 and Inspiration from the European Plant World

We had great attendance at last night’s meeting and a wonderful presentation from Brian Minter to kick off 2025 and a new year of gardening! Brian had lots of photos to share including stunning shots of innovative plant arrangements, living fences, plants under glass, bulbs displayed on top of the soil, new plant developments for 2025, and twigs—which apparently are all the rage this year.

Brian also discussed a few upcoming trends, including saying goodbye to the perfect high-maintenance garden and embracing a more natural, relaxed, lived-in garden that puts a high priority on biodiversity and sustainability. Another interesting trend is a shift towards gardens that engage all our senses, particularly hearing. Expect to see music incorporated into our gardening areas.

Thank you to Brian, once again, for a wonderful talk. We expect to get a list of the new plants Brian recommends and will share this on our Forum here.

Speaking at our next meeting on February 24 (Zoom only) is local gardening expert, Arzeena Hamir. She will share her tips for seed starting.

On March 17, we will return to in-person meetings (as well as Zoom). Members, if you have seedlings, cuttings, divisions or other plant wares, consider reserving a sales table to help fund your other garden pursuits! There is no minimum requirement for the number of items you have to sell. And please remember it is our Annual Spring-A-Friend meeting, where members are invited to bring along a non-member at no charge.

Is a recording of the Zoom meeting available?

Hi Lynn, We’ll tag Gordon here–he will know.

@Gordon can you answer Lynn please and thank you!

Sorry to all who were hoping for a recording. Brian speaks for a living, so we are not allowed to record his talks. But, he will be sending a list of all his recommendations from the talk, which we will post to the forum.
