Fig Tree Pruning

I have completed some preliminary pruning based on Franks video, this is what I’m left with. I am looking to reduce the height of this tree without comprising next years harvest. I pruned it back hard three years ago, and it took till last year to produce.

Thanks for any advice

Thanks

Hi Dan;
It is difficult to tell from the photo, but it doesn’t look like much has been taken off the tree. I would take enough off to let the light into the fruit bearing branches. I would also shorten last years growth until I got it to a height that I was comfortable picking fruit at.
Good luck and regards,

I agree with Frank. Thin branches crossing or growing in wrong direction,and cutting back ones too long to fruit bud. My Desert King always seems to put on tremendous growth in heighth every year. I have been growing it in a half oak barrel for a number of years. It produces well although most years I have to outsmart the Raccoons to get my share.
Now my problem to solve is the barrel is rotting and so need to try to transplant a new container.:scream:
