I really need to install or have installed some sort of irrigation system in my garden, as I nearly killed myself watering last year and I’m not getting any younger. I have a few raised veggie beds, fruit and nut trees, rhubarb plants, and a raspberry patch, but they are spread over a biggish back yard in Comox, uphill from the water taps. I want to be able to go away sometimes in summer, and not come back to a desert. What do you have that works? What are the downsides?
Hi Bernice, welcome to the CVHS Forum!
We have hauled hoses around our acre of property for over 15 years, and we know what you mean! There are several options, the easiest and likely cheapest would be to lay hoses and sprinklers, soaker hoses, etc., and use a timer on the water tap to regulate. The down side is you have hoses all over the yard.
A better and more expensive option is to have a watering system installed that uses buried pipes, several types of heads to distribute the water, depending on what is being watered, and electronic timers. This type of system I think needs to be registered with the jurisdiction you are in, the installer will know.
For some advice, I would contact Hydra Irrigation, who we and others in the CVHS have used and highly recommend, they should be able to advise you.
Please let us know how it goes!
Thanks
Thanks! I need all the advise I can get.
Here’s an old post that may have some relevant information for you. Good luck!
