Does anyone know what this is?

I just noticed this unusual growth on my plum tree. Does anyone know what this is? Or what I should do about it? Thanks for your help.

That looks like black knot which is very common on plum trees. You need to cut it out, 3 or 4 inches below it, and burn it. You can follow up with a fungicide but that alone won’t do it. Every year we have to cut the black knot off of our plum trees. It’s ubiquitous around here.

Thank you Kim! I went out and cut off the branches as you suggested. We’ve had the tree for over 10 years and this is the first time we’ve seen this. We’ll definitely keep an eye on our plum trees. I appreciate your help. :slightly_smiling_face:
