Chinese Dogwood ‘Satomi’ commonly called Kousa dogwood, is a small, deciduous flowering tree or multi-stemmed shrub that typically blooms in late spring. The showy parts of the Kousa dogwood “flower” (3-5” across) are the four narrowly pointed petal-like white bracts which surround the center cluster of insignificant, yellowish-green, true flowers. This is planted in deep shade in my garden and even now the blossoms are interesting.

It’s lovely Sylvia! Do you prune it at all? I have one that is more of a tree form and it is quite spindly. It does produce a few of the pink bracts and they are so beautiful in the shady area of the yard…the tree just needs to beef up a bit!
HI Lorna. I only prune if there is a wayward branch or broken (new puppy has a habit of running into it . I suspect it is because it is in partial shade that it is not going to get as big as it would normally do so.
