Cement Harvest in my Backyard

Hi Everyone: I thought other town gardeners might find my project fun. As I plant trees and work in my garden I find the usual gravel, pods of clay, and rocks, but also layers of asphault shingles, and surprise and not so surprising pieces of cement, which I’m attempting to re-use in what is becoming a recycling landscape garden. Here it is in progress: the D-rings were a three high retaining wall, the bottom layer completely buried.

It looks great! I swear I’m farming rocks in my garden. Not that I mind…they are useful. Glad you’re able to reuse what you find…

Nice project, and great that you can recycle what you are finding! I like your garden boxes too, when you are ready to replace them I can recommend a metal garden box manufacturer in Chilliwack that has great boxes. We purchased 8 last year and will get more this year or next. They are sturdier than the thinner Chinese ones, and require no internal supports.

I love rocks, too. Sometimes I go out to get more! And Yes, I’ve been thinking of metal boxes, too. We’ll see how much energy I have when the time comes.

Gordon, I’m curious what size you got and if you’ve noticed any bulging on the sides, and if you filled the 26” height with 100% soil or a mix of chips/wood and soil? We are looking into metal beds and are considering the locally made Grow Box with internal supports. Growboxx might be another thing to consider, I like that they’re 100% Canadian. Thanks, Nicole
