On May 20, 2021, the CVHS virtual Open Garden Tour team visited Pamela and Douglas’ lovely, Asian-themed garden north of Courtenay. It’s hard to believe that this garden is only five years old. Pamela and Douglas have owned the two-acre property for over 20 years but only began to transform it five years ago. It all began when Douglas asked Pamela for a water feature–which she provided–a bubbling basalt fountain. Douglas announced that he was looking for something a little bigger and soon after, the machinery arrived. The 50-thousand-gallon pond is definitely the garden anchor and is stunningly beautiful, as are the surrounding gardens and resident koi.
